Ellen Steinberg, RN, LCCE, IBCLC, CST
I have been providing healthcare services to expectant and new families since 1983.  I have a private practice in Tarzana, California.

Registered Nurse (RN) - I graduated summa cum laude from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York in July, 1975 with a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). I have been licensed as a registered nurse since 1975. For the first 2 years of my career, I worked as a pediatric staff nurse at Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. I then worked in home health care for 2 years, first at the Cambridge Visiting Nurses' Association (where I specialized in pediatrics), and then, after moving to the Los Angeles area, at Metropolitan Home Health. I then became the Education Coordinator and Quality Assurance Coordinator at Lincoln Hospital. My diverse education duties at Lincoln Hospital included teaching community classes (childbirth preparation and infant CPR - in both English and Spanish) as well as staff education (new employee orientation, nursing continuing education classes, CPR Basic Life Support, and Spanish for healthcare professionals).

Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) - I became a certified Lamaze Instructor in 1983 after attending a training program at UCLA. In 1984, with the birth of my first daughter, my career shifted to a home based business. I taught Lamaze childbirth education, breastfeeding classes, infant/child CPR classes, and baby care classes. I also worked as a birth doula and taught doula training classes. I was the Vice President of the board of ASPO/Lamaze of Los Angeles.

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) - I became a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) in 1984 and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2002.  I have provided guidance and support to thousands of new mothers.  Over the years I have also served as a consultant to institutions:

Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles: I served 3 years as president of the Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles, which is the largest professional breastfeeding task force in the U.S., offering education and advocacy for breastfeeding in Los Angeles County and beyond.

Baby Friendly Hospital Consultant - Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center: In 2003, Glendale Memorial Hospital retained my services as its exclusive outside consultant to facilitate its successful effort to become the first hospital in Los Angeles County to be certified as Baby-Friendly by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. In this role, I drafted the hospital’s breastfeeding policies and procedures and trained the hospital staff (including physicians, nurses and auxiliary personnel) in breastfeeding protocols and clinical skills.

Birth and Beyond California: Birth and Beyond California was a training and quality improvement project funded by the California Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child, Adolescent Program. I was part of a team of consultants who worked with hospitals throughout southern California, offering maternal-infant attachment and breastfeeding training as well as technical expertise to improve the quality of breastfeeding support offered at the hospitals.

American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Pilot Breastfeeding Training Program: I participated as a consultant in this pilot AAP program to train the pediatric, obstetric and family practice interns and residents at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. I worked one-on-one with the physicians, making clinical rounds to instruct them on proper bedside breastfeeding support techniques. I offered several power point presentations to the physicians on the management of common breastfeeding problems.

CranioSacral Therapist (CST) - I began my study of CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute in 2006, and became certified in 2010. I have a private CranioSacral Therapy practice based in Tarzana, CA. Although I enjoy helping people throughout the lifespan, because of my breastfeeding consulting practice I specialize in maternal-child health. I work with fertility, pregnancy, fetal issues, parent-fetal bonding, birth preparation, maternal recovery from birth, newborns, sucking and breastfeeding challenges, parent-infant bonding and communication, and infant and child health concerns.

Upledger CranioSacral Therapy Study Group Leader and Teaching Assistant: Along with my CranioSacral Therapy partner, Donna Hall, CST, I run an Upledger-appoved study group to train and support other CranioSacral Therapists. I frequently participate as a teaching assistant in Upledger CranioSacral Therapy classes.
